Pattern Name: Winter View of Pittsfield, Mass Pattern Category: Places Object Type: Wares for Coffee and Tea Description: This cup plate is a snippet of the overall view. Many cup plates are made with partial scenes of the larger pieces with that view. Some even have a series of snippet views of a scene which, when put together, make up the whole scene. Others have what is called reverse images where the bottom half is the upside-down view of the top half. There are at least four different versions of this pattern known on these little plates, but as the view is otherwise known only on items comprising a dinner service it may lead one to wonder to what other uses these "cup" plates might have been put. |
