Description:

This teapot is printed with a view of the State House at Hartford, Connecticut.   The brick structure was built in 1796 and used as the State House until 1879, after which it was used as Hartford City Hall. Designed by Charles Bulfinch, possibly after the Town Hall at Liverpool, England, the Old State House hosted the famous Hartford Convention of 1814 and the Amistad trial of 1839. The cupola and statue of Justice by John Stanwood, added in 1827, do not appear in this earlier view.
