Description:

This plate displays the Marine Hospital in Louisville believed to have been built in 1823.  It was erected by the government to care for sailors who became ill while working on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. The structure has been demolished and its site is unknown today.   This view also comes in the Circular Shell Border version (#2) without a printed title on the front, though that version is not pictured in this exhibit.
