Church in the City of New York

Pattern Category: Places

Series: Spread Eagle Border

Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares

Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 6.25 inches

Considered Rare

Description:

Note the similarity of the view on this plate to A. Stevenson's view entitled Church and Buildings Adjoining Murray Street, New York.  The church was apparently built opposite Columbia College in 1812 as the Third Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, popularly known as Dr. Mason's Church.  Hence, sometimes one sees a parenthetical (Dr. Mason's) after the title. It appears that this view by Stubbs may ONLY appear on a six inch plate.
