Masonic Hall, Philadelphia - Ridgway

Pattern Category: Places

Series: Beauties of America

Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares

This plate, its only known form other than a round sauce tureen tray, shows the Philadelphia Masonic Hall on Chestnut Street.  It was built in 1810, burned down in 1818 and was then rebuilt.  The hall was a popular venue for art exhibitions, for fairs and balls.  It was taken down in 1855-56.  Stevenson produced a very similar view of the same name (see in this exhibit).
