Boston State House

Pattern Name: Boston State House

Pattern Category: Places

Series: Floral Border

Object Type: Toilet and Personal Hygiene

Description:

This vessel was also known as a slipper pot or bourdaloue.  Ladies' undergarments at the time still had separate legs and were not joined at the center.  The vessel could be used with great convenience during a coach journey although the French name is taken from that of a Jesuit priest at the court of Louis XIV whose discourses detained the ladies of the court so long as to make the use of such a vessel a necessity.
