Wadsworth Tower - Stevenson

Pattern Category: Places

Series: Shell Border, Irregular or Grotto-Shaped Center

Object Type: Wares for Coffee and Tea

Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 6 inches

Description:

This saucer, by an unknown maker, appears to be a copy of that view by Enoch Wood in his shell border series.  As far as is known, it is the only form (other than the cup that goes with it) in which a maker used the Wood's shell border, although it is a bit different than Enoch Wood's.  It has interspersed floral sprays.  Also, note that unlike Enoch Wood's version, the name is not printed on the front of the design.   See the Enoch Wood version in this exhibit for a history of the Tower, and a variation of Wood's shell border version as well.
