View of Trenton Falls #2Pattern Category: Places Series: Shell Border, Circular Center Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares Dimensions:
Description: Shown on a plate, this version of the pattern has one man standing at the foot of the falls. Version 1 (also included in this exhibition), in place of the figure at the foot of the falls, places three people standing on a rock to the left of the falls. Trenton Falls is located on the West Canada Creek, north of Utica, NY in Oneida County. For much of the 19th century this location rivalled Niagara as a tourist destination. In 1806, John Sherman, a grandson of Roger Sherman of Connecticut who signed the Declaration of Independence, moved to Trenton and by the 1820s had established a resort by the falls which attracted many of the rich and famous of the time. |
