Description:

This plate shows the fort in the distance. The fort, constructed of red sandstone was covered with many coats of white-wash and later became known as "Old White Fort." Its location near Gansevoort Street was ceded to the Federal Government in 1807.  The fort was named for General Peter Gansevoort of Revolutionary War fame.
