This platter is by an unknown maker, and part of the City Series (also called Cities Series), and is one of two views of Chillicothe, Ohio, this one referred to as the view "with Raft," the other "with Cows."  The Town is the second oldest in the state. This view is also called view "with three boatmen on the River."  Chillicothe was the first and third capital of Ohio and is located in southern Ohio along the Scioto River.  The name comes from the Shawnee name Chalahgawtha, meaning "principal town", as it was a major settlement of that people.  See Chillicothe #1 ("with Cows") for the other version of this view.
