Description:

This platter is by an unknown maker, and part of the City Series (named Cities Series by Arman), and is one of two views of Chillicothe, Ohio, this one referred to as the view "with Cows," the other "with raft."  The Town is the second oldest in the state. The other view is called  by Larsen  view "with three boatmen on the River."  Chillicothe was the first and third capital of Ohio and is located in southern Ohio along the Scioto River.  The name comes from the Shawnee name Chalahgawtha, meaning "principal town", as it was a major settlement of that people.  See  Chillicothe #2 in this exhibit for the version containing the raft.
