From 1821 until 1832 he was treasurer of the City of Albany and the architect of the Albany Alms House in 1826. He moved to Utica in the 1830s and died there. Philip Hooker (1766-1836) was involved in architectural projects throughout upstate New York, including Albany, where he dominated the profession. He was responsible for virtually every important public building including the state Capitol.
