Arms of North Carolina

Pattern Category: Heraldic and Commemorative

Series: Arms of the States

Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares

  • Length: 14.5 inches

This platter,  its only known form, shows the State Coat of Arms of North Carolina.  The potter apparently added the stone wall and building to the original arms and replaced some mountains on the left with ships at sea.  Ceres, goddess of the harvest, stands at left while Liberty is seated.  On the present state seal the position of these two is reversed.
